Chippewa Square: First Baptist Church This is a missionary Baptist congregation with the motto, "Established in Faith; Nurtured in Hope; Continuing in Love." A Savannah city ordinance of 1791 established A Baptist Society at Houston and Duke (now Congress) Streets. The first minister was Dr. Henry Holcombe, who organized the First Baptist Church in Savannah in 1800. There's a strong music program here and an organ built by Ernest M. Skinner. Corner of Bull and oglethorpe. A soaring steeple with clocks on all four sides, topped by a gleaming brass weathervane.
3. First Baptist Church
Bull Street on Chippewa Square, (1833). Church in Greek temple design with six massive columns.
4. Savannah Theater
222 Bull Street. Live theater in an art deco building on the country's oldest theater site in continuous operation; a Greek Revival building by William Jay once stood here.
