Historic Bull Street Online Tour

First Baptist Church

Organized in 1800, the First Baptist Church was granted a perpetual charter in 1801 by Governor Josiah Tattnall, Jr., and moved to its newly completed sanctuary in 1833. Served by many distinguished ministers, one of whom founded Mercer University, this church was one of a few along the Eastern Seaboard to offer regular services throughout the Civil War.
