African-American History Online Tour

First Congregational Church - (912) 236-6521 421 Habersham Street

First Congregational Church is an outgrowth of the Alfred E. Beach Institute, originally a school where white missionary teachers taught African-American children. Organized in 1869, shortly after the Civil War, the congregation acquired this property in 1878. This Gothic building replaces the original frame meeting house. Habersham Street on Whitefield Square.
