Online Virtual Tour of Savannah
Calhoun Square: Massie Heritage Center

Thanks to a bequest from Peter Massie, who lived south of Savannah, plans were drawn by architect John S. Norris for a school which opened in 1856 to educate Savannah's less fortunate children. These buildings, closed for regular classes since 1974, are part of Georgia's oldest chartered public school. Still owned by the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools, Massie is now a resource center in living history, offering permanent exhibits of Savannah's City Plan, Savannah in the Victorian Era, and Elements of Greek, Roman, and Gothic Architecture. 201-213 East Gordon Street.
