Historic Bull Street Online Tour
Wright Square: Old County Courthouse

Wright Square is traditionally the Courthouse square. The first Courthouse building on this lot was erected as early as 1736. The newly restored present Courthouse was designed by the famous Boston architect William G. Preston and built in 1889. The three story building with clock tower, built of pale yellow brick with terra cotta decoration, is an interpretation of the Romanesque style. The Richardsonian-inspired arched entrance on the west facade has a terra cotta botanical pattern over the door and the date "1889." Buff terra cotta motifs occur on three sides of the building.
