119 East Charlton Street.
A brick residence in a design that's typical in Charleston, rare in Savannah. William Battersby built this brick house in 1852 on land purchased from friend and neighbor, Andrew Low. The front door opens onto a two-story side porch, or veranda. (In Charleston they call them "piazzas".) The original garden plan has been preserved in the walled "parterre" garden. (Parterre means that paths, beds and hedges form a pattern.)
