18 Abercorn St. 912-232-4131
Who knows how many stogies were rolled in this four-story stucco-over-brick building when it housed the Cortez Cigar Company? Christ Church bought it in 1940 for offices and for the Sunday School begun by Rev. John Wesley in 1736, the first in America. Enter through the 2-story building in the back of the garden, added later and named for the Rev. Francis Bland Tucker, D.D., rector of Christ Church from 1945-67. Beloved Dr. Tucker is remembered as "priest. poet, scholar, and significant contributor to English hymnody." The hungry and homeless come here for lunch through Emmaus House, combined outreach project of a number of parishes and denominations. 18 Abercorn Street.
